My Turn: Naysayers distort truth about Desert Discovery Center

by John Washington on June 29, 2016

We need to let this process play out with facts — not revisionist history by the “just say no” crowd. We owe it to ourselves and future generations.

Carolyn Allyn, Ace Bailey, Rusty Foley, respectfully… YOU don’t KNOW the facts. And saying that those who oppose this are revising history is insulting, and frankly makes you look like idiots.

None of you were involved when DDC discussions began, otherwise you’d know different. The Florence Ely Nelson facility is what was originally envisioned to be a desert interpretive center, and I bet none of you know where it is. The Nelsons are the ones who came up with this idea in the first place.

But some felt like that wasn’t big enough or geographically suited to fulfill the mandate. So with a lot of support from the same folks who are now opposing your taxpayer-funded commercial proposal, the City of Scottsdale built the Gateway. That should have been the end of it.

You and your cronies are the ones who have hijacked the discussion for your own glory and the profit of your friends.
