Tim Steller: Arizona fell hard for Theranos’ bluff | Latest Tim Steller columns | tucson.com

[The Theranos story] should give us pause about the state government’s rush toward deregulation and recruiting out-of-state companies, and make us ponder our choices in this year’s election.

Both Zenefits and Theranos were heavily courted by Scottsdale’s Economic Vitality Department (or whatever they call themselves these days) at the direction of embattled incumbent mayor Jim Lane. Theranos occupied space in the heavily-taxpayer-subsidized SkySong buildings, but we won’t know what kind of deal they got. As a “public-private partnership,” SkySong financials are beyond the purview of curious taxpayers.

These actions were part of Jim Lane’s goofy “cure corridor” concoction.

  1. Our Mayor Lane has proven to be a good friend, on the Taxpayers (my) dollar to those that believe they can easily scam the public system. Developers, churches, special interest groups and, ominously, those that would deny rights for women, the LGBT Communities, immigrants feed at the Scottsdale trough. Enough, get rid of this loser.
